Newsbusters:New Coalition Targets Limbaugh, Beck, Dobbs, Buchanan and Brown

· View Comments

A new coalition was launched Thursday to specifically target conservatives Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Lou Dobbs, Pat Buchanan, and Paul Brown.

Called StopTheWitchHunt.org, their goal is "to give voice to the millions of Americans who believe it is time for talk-show hosts and elected officials to stop stoking the racial anxieties of the fringes of America."

They accuse the quintet of spewing "lies and hate speech...in a nationwide witch hunt" against President Obama.

They even call Limbaugh's "I hope he fails" remark "the verbal equivalent of putting a razor blade in a candy apple."

Their press release is even more hysterical, especially the misspelling of one of the objects of their disaffection:

This Halloween, take action against the lies and hate speech that Glen [sic] Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Lou Dobbs, Paul Brown, and Pat Buchanan have been spewing in a nationwide witch hunt.

Echo Justice, a coalition of national and local organizations launched a multi-media counter to the right-wing's echo chamber. StopTheWitchHunt.org is a newly formed multimedia watch dog portal that will use social media and mobile communications to take a grassroots stand and "call out" the mischaracterizations and hate speech that has been going on for too long.

"History has taught that bad things happen when good people are silent," says Makani Themba- Nixon, Executive Director of The Praxis Project and a member of the Echo Justice coalition. "StoptheWitchHunt.org allows us to confront these scare tactics and make our voices heard."

The website is designed to give voice to the millions of Americans who believe it is time for talk-show hosts and elected officials to stop stoking the racial anxieties of the fringes of America.

Beck and his fellow band of hooligans have been telling scary stories about President Obama whom Limbaugh has disrespectfully referred to as "the little black man child." Beck recently accused the biracial President of having "a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture." And he has attacked a number of key Administration officials accusing them of being socialist and anti-American. Limbaugh, who has a history of making racially charged remarks about Obama, has called the mixed-race president "a halfrican American." Days before the President's inauguration in January, Limbaugh said, "I hope he fails" - the verbal equivalent of putting a razor blade in a candy apple.

StoptheWitchHunt.org is just the beginning of a multi-media campaign to support a new resistance to these Halloween Goons.

Readers who aren't sufficiently frightened will want to take a gander at their logo (PDF here) which is a cartoon picture of the five gentlemen dressed in what appears to be Pilgrim attire carrying pitchforks and torches in front of the White House.

BOO, scary!

Open Letter to Americans

· View Comments

2009-10-29-alexander As years progress, the more indignant I become. Not towards the politicians and corporate thieves, but towards you my fellow Americans. You who through apathy, ignorance or self interest are allowing the liberty, which many of you don’t understand, slip from your grasp. You, who are so concerned with your own little world, that perhaps sooner than you believe, stands to lose it.

Be immature and believe that the problems are Bush, Obama, Healthcare, Republicans or Democrats. Ignore that the problems we are facing didn’t begin 6 months or 8 years ago. Keep watching your “American Idol”, as your personal freedom is slaughtered upon your altar of indifference. You deserve to be enslaved. You are demanding it. You already are enslaved.

Go ahead, moan about how difficult life is, the so called benevolent hand of government will be quick to provide you the illusions of help. Why?, because they “love” you? Be foolish, take the bait. After all they have run things so well for the last 50 -100 years. Let me ask you something, if politicians are among most un-trusted people, as polling indicates, why are so many of you trusting them to solve your problems?

Oh that’s right, those greedy corporations and banks, those dang special interests. Now there is the problem! What, you expected me to defend these people? Well, I am not. They are just as complicit to the problems we face.

My question to you is who is bailing them out? Who is “not” investigating corruption on all levels? Who is “not” holding people accountable for their actions? WHO HAS TAKEN A PUBLIC OATH TO DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION!

Folks, you better wake up. This nation was conceived on a novel principle, that the people rule this nation, not tyrants or kings. That means “you” madam and sir, and “you” have been negligent in your duties.

You have allowed, and continue to allow bloated and ponderous local, state and federal governments to rob you, your children, and grandchildren of not just your money, but your most precious possessions, liberty and freedom.

You cry out to government when you should cry out to God. You beg at the trough for entitlements, when you could be helping yourself. You’ve trampled underfoot the only thing that can fix the mess, the Constitution, which many of you are too lazy to even read and growing numbers ignore.

You have allowed government to centralize too much authority. You have allowed your self interests to override general welfare. You have allowed politicians and thieves to divide us and set us against each other and to what end? Look around, it’s obvious who is benefiting and it is not us.

Some of you know all this, but you still allow your brothers, sisters, sons and daughters to believe a lie. You don’t challenge them; you let them languish in their falsehoods and ignorance. How are you helping, by letting them believe something that is not true? And do so without so much as a word or an attempt to defend the truth!

And what is that truth? Well it certainly isn’t that this nation is bad or evil; that the system is somehow broken and needs replaced. It’s not the Constitution that is broken, it’s the idiots and fools that ignore it, who call it antiquated and inapplicable to today’s society, and seek to change it behind our backs, outside the its legal constants, THEY are what is broken Let me ask you, what happens to a structure whose foundation erodes away by neglect?

Please, spare me the drivel about it being a “living” document, which must adapt to today’s social and political morays and needs. Fine, I concede that, but not outside its Article 5 amending process.

Not from the bench of some nitwit appellate court judge. Not, because Congress or the President alone choose to do so. Not, through regulation imposed by some third tier unknown executive agency. Not, because “you” want something that the rest of the nation doesn’t, and certainly not because “you” think “you” are smarter than the rest of us.

NOT UNTIL, the American people have had their say through the legal process of Article 5, THEN and only THEN will our Constitution be changed! Do you disagree? Then perhaps you and your evolved superior intellect would like to argue with the ones who wrote it. Better yet, pick up a book and read about them.

What good is a Constitution that can be ignored when you don’t like it? What good is a Constitution that can be amended by the few when it is applied to the many? Are “We”, the real authority in this nation, going to let this continue? Are “We” going to continue to succumb to the lie that government, not the people, know best?

If the people are incapable of ruling, just where are these “angels of benevolence” that can rule going to come from?!? Harvard, Yale, Columbia? Right, right and that has worked so well hasn’t it?

The greatest lie perpetrated upon the American people is that you must be a Harvard Law professor to understand a document written by farmers, fishermen, shopkeepers and soldiers. A document meant to protect “our” freedom and liberty, its foolishness to believe that only “certain” people are educated enough to interpret it. Worse yet, its a cowards way out.

This passionate plea is not about President Obama, it’s not about healthcare, and it’s not about the economy. It’s about the only thing that can fix the problems facing us, Freedom and Liberty, and the document that protects them.

If we continue to ignore it, if we continue to blindly follow politicians like we are rooting for our favorite sports teams, if we remain apathetic… then the greatest nation ever built by the shed blood of patriots has already “…perished from the face of the earth”.

Richard Behney Visit

Behney2 I just wanted to share with those that did not have the chance to hear Richard Behney speak Monday night that we have received rave reviews concerning him. Although we will not endorse Richard (or any other candidate or group) as an organization, we ask you check him out yourself.

Having had the opportunity to sit down and speak to him for several hours I can tell you that he not a politician, In fact he will be the first to tell you, the last thing he wants to do is run for office, he simple feels a deeply held duty to do so.

I know in today's culture speaking of such things like “duty” and “honor” will draw sneers and giggles from those that receive their news from “comedy central”. Which is exactly the reason people like Richard need to run for public office.

Our founders intended our government to be run by the best and the brightest people of exceeding character and honesty. Qualities seldom exhibited by the liars, thieves and idiots that populate those position today. And if you have trouble recognizing those traits amongst our political ruling class then perhaps its because you also sneered and giggled when I mentioned “duty” and “honor”.

I implore each of you to check this man out and make your own decision. I think you will find as I did, an honorable, humble man of faith that has stepped forward not because he seeks fame, but because he feels that he must.

MINUTES

October 26, 2009

The Constitutional Patriots met for their regular scheduled meeting on October 26, 2009 at 7:00pm at the Life Center Auditorium. Steve Huffman welcomed everyone and thanked them for coming. Ted Claghorn offered the prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance recited by the audience.

Johanna Campbell noted the following upcoming events:

November 9 - Matt Rawlings of Allegiance Defense Fund

November 23 - Don Bates, Jr. - Senatorial Candidate

December 14 - Marlin Stutzman - Senatorial Candidate

She then introduced the Guest Speaker Richard Behney, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate. He will be running for the Senate seat currently held by Evan Bayh.

Mr. Behney owns a small plumbing business and stated that the economy has caught up with his business as it has many many small businesses and he had to make some painful cuts in his employees. He started the "Tea Party" in Indianapolis and had 15,000 people join him on tax day. He had never done anything like this before but felt he had to do something to stop his country from being taken away. People started asking him to run for office and after visiting Washington D.C. and much soul searching he along with his wife decided he would run for the U.S. Senate. He cares about his God, his family and his country and hopes we the people feel the same way. He's asking people to send him to Washington to protect the Constitution. He believes in the following principles:

1. God is the center of his life.

2. Believes family is the backbone of our nation. He believes life starts at conception and all life has dignity.

3. Believes in the Constitution and the Republic that it defines.

4. Believes America is a good and great nation and is proud of who we are as a people.

5. He believes in government of the people, by the people and for the people. We need to stand up for our Founding Fathers.

He then had a very productive question and answer session with many concerns voiced by audience members.

One of his volunteers then showed a large copy of the Declaration of Independence and asked everyone to sign it as they left. He had asked Mr. Behney to let Wells County residents be the first to sign due to the fact he was raised in Ossian. He said Mr. Behney has a book due out in mid November and encouraged everyone to read it. He stressed their need for donations as they are operating on a small budget.

Johanna Campbell asked for freewill donations to help pay for our facility. Meeting was adjourned at 8:23pm.

Walter E. Williams – You Can’t have Both

Concheckbox "At the heart of the American idea is the deep distrust and suspicion the founders of our nation had for government, distrust and suspicion not shared as much by today's Americans. Some of the founders' distrust is seen in our Constitution's language such as Congress shall not: abridge, infringe, deny, disparage, violate and deny. If the founders did not believe Congress would abuse our God-given rights, they would not have provided those protections. After all, one would not expect to find a Bill of Rights in Heaven; it would be an affront to God. Other founder distrust for government is found in the Constitution's separation of powers, checks and balances and the several anti-majoritarian provisions such as the Electoral College and the requirement that three-quarters of state legislatures ratify changes in the Constitution. The three branches of our federal government are no longer bound by the Constitution as the framers envisioned and what is worse is American ignorance and acceptance of such rogue behavior. Look at the current debate over government involvement in health, business bailouts and stimulus packages. The debate centers around questions as whether such involvement is a good idea or a bad idea and whether one program is more costly than another. Those questions are entirely irrelevant to what should be debated, namely: Is such government involvement in our lives permissible under the U.S. Constitution? That question is not part of the debate. The American people, along with our elected representatives, whether they're Republicans or Democrats, care less about what is and what is not permissible under our Constitution. They think Congress has the right to do anything upon which they can secure a majority vote, whether they have the constitutional or moral authority to do so or not."

Are we today "under conquest"?

Thursday, October 15, 2009 · View Comments

In a nation under conquest, such as America, our slow and stealthy approach need take advantage only of the cycles of booms and depressions inherent in Capitalistic nations in order to assert of more and more strong control over individual wills. A boom is as advantageous as a depression for our ends, for during prosperity our propaganda lines must only continue to point up the wealth the period is delivering to the selected few to divorce their control of the State. During a depression one must only point out that it ensued as a result of the avarice of a few and the general political incompetence of the national leaders.

Trying to Get "Fascinated" with the Apathetic

Tuesday, October 13, 2009 · View Comments

After a terrific meeting last night where Tim Cox of GOOOH led us in a dynamic effort to consider our values, I came home very charged up and ready to attack this problem we have in our country. The problem is our government thinks we are so stupid that we will fall for the power .grab they have disguised as health care, cleaning up the environment, etc. Just pick a problem and they will fix it for you, then turn around and tax individuals and businesses into oblivion, making us completely dependent upon the government and too financially limited to break away from its hold. But Tim showed us how to combat this and I felt re-energized in the cause, ready to continue the good fight. Many people stayed and participated, and perhaps things will start to change; these were my thoughts.

Then tonight I got on Facebook to post about my thoughts, and immediately became discouraged. Why? On my wall are posts after posts from friends. Anyone saying, "sorry I missed the meeting but I really care about the issues"? No. Did anyone even notice my prior post that the meeting was coming up, encouraging them to attend, making them aware of the date/time/location? Nope. And that's ok because I realize people are busy. They have families and households to run, and life sometimes gets in the way. But it isn't that simple. What do I see instead? Farmville, Farkle, etc. Somebody got an award for planting the best virtual corn. Someone else got the "high score."

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? If I have one more person tell me they can't stand the government, are afraid of what it is doing to their kids, and their grandkids (including those that aren't even born yet), and the foundation of this great nation, and turn around and spend their evening playing Farmville or Farkle, or some other stupid online game that results in NO personal gain, NO mental growth, NO spiritual gain, and instead just wastes brain cells and electricity, I am going to GO OFF!!

People it is time to GET REAL. Get educated about the true meaning of the Constitution. Get educated about how bills are passed in our legislature, and what the voice of the people can do to influence the outcome. Get a clue about who our leaders are, not just by the pretty speeches they deliver, but the true character they possess reflected in the people they surround themselves with and the groups they cater to. Get your butt out of your computer desk chair, and your mind on something that matters. Make a difference! If you can't do it for yourself, do it for your kids. Show a little leadership in your own household by example, that when something isn't right we fight it - we don't just roll over and wait for the inevitable, then complain after it happens.

The apathy in this country and this community, even my own circle of friends, that remains is infuriating to me. Stop doing nothing and expecting your neighbor to fix the problem. Stop looking to leaders who can't lead. Stop complaining that your lifestyle and finances are getting worse every year, and go directly to the source of the problem - bloated government! - and do something, ANYTHING. Get on your knees and pray if nothing else. Not everyone can contribute money, time, or some unique skill to bring about a better result, but you can spend your time wisely seeking God's direction in these matters. HE is still in control! And those of us who are trying to do something need your prayers daily. My God was the only one who could have created this country, and now it seems He is the only one who may be able to save it, as mortal men are failing us.

Steve Huffman always says "don't get frustrated, get fascinated." Steve, you know I love you like a brother, but I'm having a hard time getting fascinated. Perhaps my calling is to create a computer game that can interface on Facebook that people play to find out how much their part of the national deficit is. Maybe that would clue them in. I don't know. But for now, I'm not fascinated; I'm not even frustrated anymore - I'm just $#@@#$ pissed off!!!

The health care bill cleared the Senate Finance Committee today. For those of you who are clueless, by choice, about how legislation works, the next step is for a final draft of the bill to go to the full Senate for a vote. Then it goes to the House. Then it goes to the President and it's law. This could happen within weeks. No more arguing about it at that point, we are stuck with it. So telling our Senators NOW that we do NOT believe universal health care is constitutional is IMPERATIVE. We must encourage them to vote against it. They may ignore us, but we have to take the step of letting them know. Otherwise we are not performing our civic duty. So PLEASE get a piece of paper or a post card out, dial the phone, send an email, anything to tell them how you feel. THAT can make a difference. Building a fence for your virtual cow in Farmville WILL NOT. Wake up!

The Constitutional Patriots met for their regular scheduled meeting on October 12, 2009 at 7:00pm at the Life Center Auditorium.

The meeting was opened by Steve Huffman who welcomed everyone. He asked Nathan Morrow to give the benediction followed by the audience reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Steve gave recognition to some well known people in the audience among them Scott Mossburg, a county council member and Travis Holderman, a state representative.

Johanna Campbell gave a report on our upcoming events:

October 26 - Richard Behney - Republican Senatorial Candidate

November 9 - Matt Rawlings - Alliance Defense Fund (1st amendment issues)

November 23 - Don Bates,Jr. - Senatorial Candidate

Johanna also related that we are now providing child care services during our meetings. She then asked for donations in order to help with the facility charge.

Michael Yancey then introduced our guest speaker, Tim Cox from Liberty Hill, Texas and author of "Revolution - Get Out of our House." He told us what led him to this position he has taken some of which are: Government out of control with a huge deficit - Texas being overrun with illegal aliens, completely out of control - in Texas no prayer allowed before football games, etc. He asked : "Are the representatives in Washington really representing us or do they represent special interests"? We the people are fourth at best on their list of interests. He talked of our Founding Fathers who created the "Perfect Government".

He then explained his solution to the problem in Washington. His system would replace everyone in the House of Representatives and he needs 500,000 people to get this plan started. This group would be divided into groups of ten with the ending result 435 candidates to run for office. His only platform at this time is TERM LIMITS. He asked "what are we leaving for future generations if we do nothing"? He then took questions from the audience. He asked for everyone who could to go to the cafeteria after our meeting adjourns for his informational presentation as to how this process would work in reality.

Meeting adjourned at 8:18pm.

Awaken the Spirit of Liberty

"[I]f the public are bound to yield obedience to laws to which they cannot give their approbation, they are slaves to those who make such laws and enforce them." --Candidus in the Boston Gazette, 1772

"[W]here there is no law, there is no liberty; and nothing deserves the name of law but that which is certain and universal in its operation upon all the members of the community." --Benjamin Rush, letter to David Ramsay, 1788

Some people who disagree with my way of thinking have accused me of being a “quote-miner” what ever that means. If it is meant to say that when I am unsure of something, I look to those that better understand, then I guess that’s me. I am happy to wear the title. Somehow, I don’t think it’s meant that way. What escapes me is how anyone that thinks quoting our Founders is anything but wise. Alas, they do exist.

I want to show you something. The top quote was Samuel Adams; Candidus being a pen name he used to keep from being hanged by the neck, 1772 was no time to be quoted saying such things. The second was 16 years later by Benjamin Rush and was made a year or so after the Constitution was written. Adams of course is directing his comment to existing laws being enforced by Colonial rule, Rush speaking about the laws that would arise from the Constitution.

Two completely different statements, given at two completely different points in history, and by two men not only of different ideology, but completely different backgrounds. Yet can you see the similarity in their beliefs.

Adams saying that the people should be part of the approval process of law, and Rush affirming the importance of it and that it should be applied equally at all times. Our Congress is tasked with making law in this nation; do you see the words of these wise men being heeded by them?

How are the people able to give approbation when they are not being represented? How is law being applied equally when tax cheats are appointed as Department Heads, and remain chairs of Congressional Committees? How are liberties being protected when elites are allowed to ignore the law but we are expected to adhere to it?

What chance do we stand, common folks, in a corrupted system of government where law is applied based upon your “importance” or that you are “too big to fail”? How much long are the people of this nation going to tolerate this governmental abomination, where “money” is the deciding vote and ours are not?

It’s not too late. We have all the power we need to dethrone these rulers, which call themselves representatives of the people. We have the United States Constitution! And it is time we use it for the good of us all. But you are going to have to read it and understand it first. No one can do that for you. Now is no time for excuses. The spirit of Liberty in this nation must be awakened… or we are once again…

… slaves to those who make such laws and enforce them.

2010 Elections

Thursday, October 8, 2009 · View Comments

The following is a message received from Mike Lewinski of the Kendallville 9/12 group:

Among the patriots who make up the 912/TP struggle against the Statists, there seems to be agreement that the enemies of freedom who have been elected to representative positions must be thrown out of office if we are to restore our Constitutional Republic . The Kendallville group believes that as long as we still have free speech and the vote we must use those gifts from the Founders to defeat the evil from within which is destroying our country.

From this perspective it seems our efforts, in the final analysis, have to be directed to the vote. Educating people, registering citizens, and seeing that they get to the polls should be our primary objective. This is the only real bullet we have.

We ought to be collaborating to accomplish that. A portion of our collective intelligence and wisdom should be focused on educating people, registering voters, and getting them to the polls twice in 2010 and again in 2012. We should be sharing information about this. The first election is only 7 months away. And don't forget, that election determines whether or not we will have any real choice in the fall election.

Remember, ACORN and the politically active leftist unions are going to be making mega efforts to educate, register, and get people to the polls in those same elections. Is that something we are just going to concede to them? Are we going to rely upon "chance" to turn the tide at the polls, or are we going to start doing the hard, tedious, boring political work necessary to use free speech and the vote to beat the evil that wants to enslave us?

Certainly, there must be some people in each group who would be willing to work with others in our groups to focus upon the ways and means of positively effecting the elections. Please have anyone who would be willing to help us figure out how we can accomplish the three goals listed above contact me [mlewinski@mchsi.com 260 925-3849]. If you want me to come to one of your meeting and discuss this I will be glad to do so. Work on this effort which has barely been started can be found at www.auburncommittee.org Sign in, go the forum link located in the menu bar at the top of the page, open New American Revolution, and open the Hope thread. There you will find the three files-Candidate Questionnaire, Registration Project, and Get Out The Vote.

Additional Information

If you have not heard, the Kendallville City Council voted down a State Sovereignty Resolution by three to one. The mayor said in a prepared statement that she could not support it because she believes in a "living Constitution". Two of the three councilmen who voted against the resolution had told us a month earlier that they could support it. One of the councilmen, with whom we had not spoken, implied that we were just a bunch of Beck robots, and said that Glenn was an entertainer holding his finger up in the air [Glenn's selling out his country for ratings (money)]. We do have a video of the council meeting.

When we meet tonight, I'm going to talk with our group about punishing these politicians, and lifting up Regan Ford [the councilman who voted for the resolution he authored for us] with a tea party in Kendallville. In the State Sovereignty Demonstration Packet [which is attached] we observed "In the upcoming election season, we will be in a good position to ask all of our candidates where they stand on state sovereignty and what they will do to support it. If we had not been successful, we would have worked to make state sovereignty an important issue in the councilman's next election. Either way, a focus on state sovereignty opens up so many of the issues we want politicians to address [shape the elections].

I am also going to ask the group to commit $100 of the $1,000 towards a Goto Meeting.com annual contract for a webinar capability which also includes go to meeting capabilities. [Think of an old fashion telephone party line with a computer screen that can be shared by all of the participants. It's not much money and it would enable leaders from the group to conveniently meet, as well as allow geographically diverse individuals within all the groups to work together on whatever projects might be decided upon. Any thoughts you might have on the use of such technology is welcome. “Goto Meeting” can accommodate 16 sites. The webinar can handle up to 1,000 sites. Isn't technology wonderful?

Why Did Our Founders Want Only Qualified Citizens to Vote?

From the beginning of our great country, there has been an ongoing debate: how should judges (the Supreme Court in particular) interpret the Constitution? That is, should it be interpreted as a "living" document (the liberal view), or should it be interpreted according to the framer's original intent (the conservative view)?

The Cliff Notes version of the supporting arguments to both positions is as follows. The "living" Constitution theory says that, although the Constitution was created in accordance with the societal norms of that time, society has changed and so, therefore, must the thinking in the Constitution. Consequently, judges must make commensurate changes, ones that will address modern society. On the other hand, the "original intent" group argues that the Constitution has an already-available amendment procedure to accomplish such societal changes, and it is adequate for any needed updates. They also argue that interpreting the Constitution as a "living" document turns the law into a moving target, located wherever the individual whims of justices may take it from time to time. They strongly believe that if true justice for all is to be achieved, the law itself must be addressed, not a judicial interpretation of it.

In the middle of this ongoing and intense debate, however, there is one important point - perhaps the most important point - that is ignored: the assumption that the Constitution was written based on the varying norms of society is simply not correct. Instead, the Constitution was written based on the unchanging condition of human nature. Society changes, but human nature does not, making that great document as valid today as it was the day it was written. Consequently, the original intent of the framers is the only thing we can look to, for guidance. So what do we find?

Liberals often cite the Constitution's original voting requirements as proof of their argument that what was written then is no longer applicable today. At the time of the writing of the Constitution, only male land owners were permitted to vote; women were entirely prohibited. Liberals, therefore, say that although that may have been acceptable in society when the Constitution was written, it is unacceptable today.

The process proscribed within the Constitution allowed the document to be amended, and without the help of any judicial interpretation. The founding fathers believed, as I do, that the long term welfare of our nation is best served by an informed, invested electorate. Thus, I question the assumption that the original intent fails at all - not only for these reasons, but due to the fact that women were not allowed to vote then because they were not regarded as well enough educated or informed, and that only property owners were thought to have enough of an investment in the long term welfare of the state to qualify as voters.   This was the framer's original intent - they believed that such a requirement to qualify to vote was not unreasonable. Would we not be better off today if that principle were applied? It might have been better if the Constitution were more clear, stating outright that only informed citizens with a vested interest are allowed to vote, but clearly, the idea as it was manifested at the time of the writing is a sound one. If anyone today is regarded as well-informed, and non-land owners as vested, let them vote. But preserve the integrity of the system and erect a bar over which people must climb before voting. We will all be better off.

Instead, it has been determined that anyone should be able to vote, even though too many voters have no earthly  idea what policy or party serves them best. National research demonstrates that more people know who Paula Abdul is than who know the three branches of government. This extension of voting rights to anyone and everyone has led to a huge bloc of people voting on emotion and only for their immediate gratification, as opposed to what best serves the country and even themselves in the long run. These voters are like the farmers who eat the seed corn and are therefore unable to plant in the spring.

The popular idea today is that the more people who vote, the stronger our democracy will become, helping everyone to feel he has a role in decision making. But more important for political stability is the economic welfare of the country. Hitler earned just 2% of the vote in the election before the Depression, but with economic hard times as a catalyst, he won outright. Can you think of any modern-day similar situation? Long term economic welfare would be much better served in a system that filtered qualified voters - those with at least a rudimentary knowledge of how our government works. This is not a new or radical idea - we require that vehicle drivers be licensed by passing tests before we allow them behind the wheel. Since the very welfare and viability of our country is at stake, especially our national security, should we tolerate anything less?

Some may say this is unfair, that everyone should vote, but is the system as it is set up today fair? Under our everyone-can-vote current system, one group can vote themselves another group's private property, something certainly unfair and unlikely to occur if only property owners were voting. In the short run, expropriating private property may benefit a few, but in the long run it is ruinous for everyone.   The constitutional restrictions on voting (as they were written) should have been replaced, not eliminated. I won't speculate on what criteria should be applied, but real standards need to be set.

Our founding fathers were brilliant. They took the selfishness in human nature and, through capitalism and private property, harnessed it so as to do the greatest public good for the greatest number of people. We should listen closely to everything they said. After all, this experiment we call the United States of America has produced the greatest country in the history of mankind.
