Carrots for Taliban, Sticks for U.S. troops

What do you suppose Americans would have said if FDR ordered the War Department to remove candy bars from the rations, and stop handing out cigarettes??

From Powerline Blog

ISAF commander Gen. Stanley McChrystal has ordered the closure of morale, welfare, and recreation facilities to pay for the Obama administration's troop increase - which if you will remember was far less than what the military said would be necessary for 'victory' (a word which Obama will not use).

'This is a war zone -- not an amusement park,' stated Command Sgt. Maj. Michael T. Hall on the decision to close fast

'One of the ways we're going to do that -- in order to accommodate the troop increase and get re-focused on the mission at hand -- is to cut back on some of the non-essentials. That includes some of the morale, welfare and recreation facilities throughout Afghanistan.' said Hall. 'In the coming weeks and months, concessions such as Orange Julius, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Dairy Queen and Military Car Sales will close their doors.'

Perhaps the Commander-in-Chief forgot who is fighting on our side: While the Obama administration is considering a stimulus package for the Taliban, McChrystal is forced to cut funding for our troops. And let's not forget the trillions of dollars of new government spending.

Fewer first-run movies. Fewer canned and bottled goods. Fail. But the bright news is that Canadian troops get to keep their Tim Hortons coffee shop in Kandahar. And the profits pay for health and welfare services for the Canadian forces.

Maybe the famous American quote should now read 'Trillions for entitlements, but not a penny for defense!'

For years, commentators have been saying that the New Orleans Saints were so bad at playing football that hell would freeze over before they would ever win the Super Bowl.

On Sunday, February 7, 2010 The Saints won the Super Bowl. On that same Sunday, Washington D.C. was paralyzed under several feet of snow and the Federal Government was shut down…

Thank you Saints, we now know for certain where hell is located.

We can’t Bart Stupak go without a parting gift. Judas, after all, got 30 silver coins to sell out our Lord. Stupak needs something for selling out all the children sent off to be slaughtered thanks to his “compromise” that any President can pen away to oblivion — notwithstanding the questionable legal assumptions behind it.

Let’s send him 100 silver coins. It’s only a $4.00 investment on your part.

Order them and send them to:

Beyond Arrogance – Obama & Company’s Reckless Disregard for the Rule of Law

Friday, March 19, 2010 · View Comments

From Red State

The United States of America is great for a number of reasons. Its commitment to liberty, dedication to charity, defense of its friends and freedom around the globe, historical reliance on the individual and on free markets, and in my opinion, national reverence for the Almighty, are among those things that make our nation the greatest the world has ever known. But perhaps second only to our collective Faith in God – our commitment to the rule of law sets us apart and serves as the foundation for our strength and prosperity. One need not look any farther than our southern neighbors in Mexico to see what the world looks like when the rule of law is abandoned.

In America, the rule of law is under direct attack. And unfortunately the frontal assault comes primarily from the President of the United States, the Attorney General, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to name a few.

Example #1: The President and the Attorney General fraudulently and recklessly declare that terrorists can and should be convicted in civilian courts, yet will not say what will happen if these terrorists are found innocent - saying only that “this will not happen.” (see, e.g. Andy McCarthy here, and generally). By doing so, they make a mockery of the very rule of law they pretend to be protecting - and they weaken our national security in the process.

Example #2: The President and the Speaker of the House are on the verge of colluding to pass a bill that will effectively nationalize 1/6 of our economy, turn our personal healthcare decisions over to bureaucrats, spend trillions of dollars – and they will do so without actually having passed the bill in both Houses. Even if one doesn’t think this is unconstitutional in the sense one might get the Court to strike it down (though sue we should – and kudos to Mark Levin and Landmark Legal for preparing to do so) – it definitively, most assuredly, turns the Constitution and the rule of law on its head – and dangerously so.

Suffice it to say that President Obama and his minions arrogantly and callously barrel full steam ahead with total reckless disregard for the Constitution and the rule of law – and it’s not just our national security and healthcare that is at stake. It is our very way of life. The rule of law cannot be compartmentalized – when we weaken it in one respect, we weaken it in all respects – and thus property rights, faith in our system of justice, belief in our elected leaders and virtually every link between citizen and government is destroyed.

So what to do? We continue to fight and we fight harder. We fight this weekend (see gopcodered and call Congress). We fight in the Senate. We get our states to pass laws contrary to this unconstitutional intrusion by the national government (see: 30 states have taken or are taking action… do more). We sue – and sue in multiple places for multiple reasons (see, e.g. Levin above, VA AG Ken Cucinelli preparing to sue, and numerous other states as well). We crush democrats in the fall (give money to conservative candidates like Marco Rubio, Mike Lee in Utah over establishmentarian and pro-government healthcare Bob Bennett), we repeal it (see: www.repealit.org)– and most of all, we all simply say, “hell no.”

Like most Americans, I am committed to God, to liberty, to self-reliance and to taking care of my loved ones as I see fit. No one – and I really mean NO ONE – will ever get in the way of those things. I will fight with every ounce of my being to be able to give to my son his birthright – that of being an American – and to have that mean something. I will not allow a self-absorbed, narcissistic fool hell bent on creating a totalitarian state not even in the name of compassion, but rather, in the name of himself, to destroy the rule of law, and thus the nation. Game on.

Every Train Wreck Requires a Train - Stephen Paul Leykauf

Thursday, March 18, 2010 · View Comments

Some of the representations in this article are the same as found in Progressive Destruction of the AARP. The limited, common text is understandable since both articles are variations on a common theme – “Progressive destruction.” This writing discusses destruction of one of the world’s largest corporations.

Every Train Wreck Requires a Train

While government "by the people" is bottom-up, what Obama and his crowd have in mind is a top-down leadership by hijacking and destroying large entities.  To that end, Progressives are taking over and destroying network media, newspapers, the AARP, the Democrat Party, etc.  Chairman Jeffrey Immelt was not able to destroy the General Electric Company through six years of incompetent leadership.  So by early 2008, he had jumped on the Progressive ObamaTrain.

An understanding of corporate (i.e., group) suicide is elusive to all of us. However, people have seen this phenomenon sufficiently often to recognize it when they see it.

· Print and network media persisting in promoting a Liberal bias, even as their readerships / viewerships tank.

· Rev. Jim Jones leading 909 people to “revolutionary suicide” in Jonestown, Guyana (1978) while counseling, “Stop this hysterics. This is not the way for people who are Socialists or Communists to die. No way for us to die. We must die with some dignity.”

· Our Creator asking the nation of Israel, “Why do you want to die ?” (Ezekiel 33:11).

We now see the General Electric Company opting for Progressive destruction. A scenario worthy of consideration . . .

Progressives have a consistent track record of destroying host entites.

The word “Liberal” did not have a negative connotation in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Then Progressives hijacked the Liberal movement, and Liberals were forced into hiding around 1920. The Liberal brand was poisoned by Progressives, so the Liberal name was replaced in the mid-1900s by “Progressive” . . . same mission to hijack, then destroy – just a name change to hide their unchanged intent. Fast forwarding to the 21st century, no Liberal ever runs under the “Liberal” brand.

Progressives are similar to Marxists. Marxists force change by revolution, while Progressives force change by evolution. Importantly, Progressive intrusion into any entity has always led to the host’s destruction. While America’s founding Fathers understood the wisdom of “separation of power” in limiting its concentration, the primary objective of Progressives is unlimited government.

More recently, Progressives have hijacked both Democrat and Republican Parties, and are working to destroy both, with particular focus upon the Democrat Party. The tools Progressives are using to subjugate the Democrat Party include bribery and intimidation. While Marxists change by force of arms, Progressives primarily use intimidation to force change in otherwise reluctant, target hosts. For example, resolute Progressive-in-Chief Obama basically said in his 2010 State of the Union address, “I am going to force a Socialistic agenda down your collective throats”.

Cancer is an appropriate metaphor for the malignancy that is Progressivism. Nearly all known cancers arise gradually. As we have seen, Progressives force change over time – evolution – rather than suddenly – revolution. Secondly, cancer is characterized by invasion (intrusion on and destruction of adjacent tissues). Invasion through hijacking its hosts has been the preferred pathway of Progressives. Thirdly, cancer often metastisizes (spread to other locations in the body via lymph or blood). Progressives destroy their hosts through replication. Anything which replicates (our cells) will probabilistically suffer from errors (mutations). The errors survive, and are passed along to “daughter cells”. Thus cancer and Progressivism often explode in something akin to a chain reaction caused by a few errors, which compound into more severe errors. Errors which produce more errors are effectively the root cause of both cancer and Progressive destruction. And like cancer, Progressives destroy their hosts.

Progressives hijack the General Electric Company through its Chairman

The decline of General Electric was chronicled in behind-the-scenes, FORTUNE magazine article, GE Under Siege, in mid-October 2008. Additional insight into GE’s decline can be found at:http://declineofanamericanicon.blogtownhall.com. In another move detrimental to the health of General Electric, Jeffrey Immelt’s NBC and MSNBC units were found to engage in deliberate Liberal bias during the 2008 general election.

General Electric sows the seeds of its own destruction

GE’s embrace of Obama and his Progressive agenda is self-destructive on several levels:

Flawed Constructs.

1. Progressives have a perfect record of destroying the hosts that they hijack.

2. After Obama publicly told Joe, the Plumber, that he would spread wealth, Immelt’s enthusiasm for Barack Obama remained undiminished, with continued NBC and MSNBC promotion of his candidacy. Millions of GE shareholders did not invest in the Company to have their wealth spread around by a socialistic government. On NBC’s March 3 Today show, CNBC’s Jim Cramer told host, Matt Lauer, “Shareholder-friendly? This is the most, greatest wealth destruction I've seen by a president.”

3. Immelt chose to hijack a major asset of a publicly-owned corporation to advance the candidacy of the nominee who favored increasing taxation on the wealthy. GE built great wealth from innovation and hard work of millions of people over 130 years. And GE is a repository of wealth for millions of investors. Thus, Immelt offered up a wealthy General Electric Company as a target for higher taxation.

4. Millions of investors, employees, and customers felt uncomfortable contributing resources to aid GE’s open and blatant endorsement of a radical Liberal candidate.

5. The greatness of General Electric was made possible by Capitalism. Its rise to industrial prominence was a triumph of Capitalism and a symbol of how business unfettered by unnecessary government burden can bring prosperity to the masses. Immelt’s promotion of socialistic candidacy raised the risk of GE being able to continue its long history of industrial success under a new order that was foreign during its first 130 years. The February 16, 2009 Newsweek cover story headlined, “We Are All Socialists Now”.

Violation of Trust. The typical car-jacker provides an appropriate metaphor for Obama . . . a car-jacker getting well-groomed so that some unsuspecting motorist will pick him up. Once picked up, he can then stick his knife in the Good Samaritan's back.

Obama and his Progressive crowd have raised back-stabbing to a new level. Here She Comes (http://hereshecomes.blogtownhall.com) details how Obama purposes to stab three of the six “pillars of the Democrat Party” in their backs. As an organization who has bought into ObamaCare in a big way though blatant Liberal bias of its MSNBC and NBC divisions, General Electric must receive an ObamaKnife – where it doesn’t want it.

Sacrificed Business Ethics.

Obama and his followers are not nice people. They approve of / assent to:

Lying – dishonesty is perfectly acceptable to defend the indefensible or to cover over previous lies. Integrity is out; dishonesty is in.

Cheating – using dishonest means to achieve your aims is perfectly acceptable.

Thievery – it is morally acceptable to take a man’s good name, property, wealth, rights, liberties, and sacred honor.

Murder – Your life is of little value to this crowd. If they cannot destroy you before you are born, they will assassinate your character, or pull the plug on your life-sustaining care when you become old. These poor excuses for humanity want to be able to destroy you at any point in your life.

-- excerpted from Here She Comes

Presidential lying is necessary to hide corruption. As Obama kept company with America-damning Rev. Wright and seditionist Bill Ayers, now Immelt keeps company with a corrupt Obama. And everything reproduces after its own kind.

“Evil friendships destroy good character.” (I Corinthians 15:33)

GE’s endorsement carries with it an approval of the ethics and values of those they endorse and an embrace of their underlying moral foundation. The significance of the culture of rampant government lying is that lying is a gateway corruption – good lying skills contribute to “successful” theft, bribery, cheating, and all other manner of wrongdoing. Since Satan is the Father of lies, and since both Obama and Satan are prolific liars, GE’s enthusiasm of ObamaCare as demonstrated by its NBC and MSNBC units is a deal with the devil.

The foundational lies of Obama and his Progressive crowd are 1) the consequences of wrongdoing can be escaped, and 2) we can freely indulge in wrongdoing, and won’t get caught. And Progressives will get caught when an onlooking population always comes to ask, “Why is a skewing of the truth necessary ?”

Endorsing ObamaCare Violates any Sense of Justice

Perhaps one of the reasons that 70% of the U.S. population is mad as hell, and not going to take it any more, is the growing realization that our upper leadership are glorified crooks. And there is a growing sense that people will definitely not get a fair shake under crooked leadership.

General Electric Buying Into a Track Record of Failure

Obama has absolutely no business experience. Zero. Zip. Nada. This man does not know what he is doing. Every President since Dwight Eisenhower has believed that they had inherited an unfavorable economy. But this one is in a class of his own. Obama has visited upon America a level of destruction in a single year, greater than the destruction of four years of Jimmy Carter. Think “scorched earth policy”. Think Sherman’s march to the sea.

The latest brilliance originating from this tower of intellectual elitism is a spending freeze based upon an elevated, pre-freeze level of spending. And a freeze affecting only 1/8 of a bloated budget. Coming calamity, ranging from protracted recession to deep depression can be precluded only with a 1/3 reduction in the size of government, plus a firing up of job-producing small business through hiring tax incentives, plus getting out of the way of business.

GE is harming itself. When Obama’s agenda to transform America by destroying it becomes unmasked, the image of Obama will be that of a pariah. Importantly, General Electric has demonstrated negligence in mitigating harm to itself through reckless and irresponsible advocacy of government control that has a unblemished record of failure. Can GE pass any reasonable test of mitigation when their actions invite harm to itself ?

Millions of investors, lured by the supposed safety of an AAA-rated company, have been harmed by mediocre financial performance of the Company under Immelt:

Capital Appreciation. Five of nine historical stock splits occurred during Jack Welch’s leadership. There have been no stock splits during Immelt’s first 8 years. The Company’s next stock split is nowhere in sight.

Stock Price. Immelt came to the Chairmanship at a share price of 39.35, never exceeding 42.15 during his first 8 years. Almost $250 billion of GE common stock value has vanished.

Dividends. General Electric Co. slashed its quarterly dividend by nearly 68% on February 27, 2009, reversing a 31-year trend of annual increases in its payout.

GE investors realized an average annual return of almost 24% during Welch’s term as Chairman; investors lost hundreds of billions of dollars during the first 8 years of Immelt’s tenure. With the full cooperation of a Progressively corrupted Board of Directors that is more committed to perpetuating a reign of destruction than to maximizing shareholder value, Immelt created the paradox of a AAA-rated corporation with “junk- bond” investor community confidence. Forbes labeled Jeffrey Immelt one of the worst performing CEOs in America. This, then, is the story of manufacturing-originated well-being of millions, mortgaged to continue the control of incompetent and politically corrupt top management. And so it was that the progeny of a gilded manufacturing enterprise squandered its heredity.

Fifteen Republican Senators voted against Jim DeMint’s measure to ban earmarks in the Senate.

Those fifteen were:

  1. Alexander (R-TN)
  2. Bond (R-MO)
  3. Bunning (R-KY)
  4. Cochran (R-MS)
  5. Collins (R-ME)
  6. Gregg (R-NH)
  7. Hutchison (R-TX)
  8. Inhofe (R-OK)
  9. Lugar (R-IN) – Surprise… Surprise
  10. Murkowski (R-AK)
  11. Roberts (R-KS)
  12. Shelby (R-AL)
  13. Snowe (R-ME)
  14. Voinovich (R-OH)
  15. Wicker (R-MS)

Senator Bob Bennett, who denounced the measure to a RedState contributor, did not vote at all.

Friends, we can change the Republican Caucus in the United States Senate. But we have to unite behind the real small government conservatives out there. We must get on the same page to improve our own.

Here is the list. We need these guys:

Ken Buck in Colorado Chuck DeVore in California Michael Williams in Texas Marco Rubio in Florida Rand Paul in Kentucky Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania Danny Tarkanian in Nevada Marlin Stutzman in Indiana Mike Lee in Utah

And if we can, I say we go with Ovide LaMontagne in New Hampshire and Christine O’Donnell in Delaware. Let’s go all and all in for small government conservatives. This year is our last best chance in a long time to get a slate of solid conservatives.

Have the Democrats got the votes?

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 · View Comments

Friday, we reported that the Democrats were within four votes of passing Obamacare.

Today, we are told that four Democrats are changing their votes from “NO” to “YES” on Obamacare:

  • Boccieri, OH - (202) 225-3876
  • Altmire, PA - (202) 225-2565
  • Gordon, TN - (202) 225-4231
  • Baird, WA- (202) 225-3536

On the other hand, the corner reports the Democrats are still about 10 votes of the 216 required to pass Obamacare, or execute the unconstitutional Slaughter gambit. It is also possible the Democrats could be losing votes.

Either way it wouldn’t be a bad idea to call the offices of the representatives listed above and let them know how you feel about the Democrats’ Obamacare bill.

UPDATE by Erick:

Call Mike McMahon (D-NY). He is against Obamacare. He is under attack from unions. Call and tell him thanks and encourage him to stick with his no vote. His number is (202) 225-3371.

Suzanne Kosmas (D-FL) is wobbling and she’s easy pickings in November. Call her and tell her to vote no. Her number is (202) 225-2706.

REPUBLICAN Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) voted with the Democrats today on a health care deform amendment. Call and tell him to vote no. His number is (202) 225-2778.

The Democrats Must Be Stopped

The Democrats Must Be Stopped

There are several reasons why some people still don't understand the fiscal disaster that Barack Obama and the Democratic Party are visiting on our nation. The first is the sheer enormity of the numbers involved. It is hard for anyone really to comprehend the difference between 'billion' and 'trillion.' The second is that we have been hearing about spending increases, deficits, and so on for so long that it isn't immediately obvious why the current crisis is different. We conservatives criticized the Bush administration and the Republican Congress for excessive spending; now we're criticizing the Democrats for the same thing. What's the difference? The third factor, as usual, is deliberate media myopia. The mainstream press could educate voters about what is going on, but prefers not to.

Pictures, as always, are better than words. Like this chart from Investors Business Daily:

ISSdt0312_1100311.png

IBD editorializes:

Just last year, U.S. public debt totaled $7.5 trillion -- a sum equal to all the indebtedness accumulated from our 225 years in existence as a nation. But by 2020, total U.S. public debt will be $20.3 trillion -- an increase of 171% in just 10 years.

And that assumes that Obama's rosy budget assumptions all come true. The reality, if the Democrats are not stopped, will be much worse.

last year, debt as a share of GDP -- the recognized measure for how indebted a country is -- stood at 53%. By 2020, it will be over 90%.

And that's not including the hundreds of billions of debts run up by Social Security and Medicare, which, technically, the government says it 'owes to itself.'

But that 90% number is key. A recent study conducted by economists Carmen Reinhart and Kenneth Rogoff for the National Bureau of Economic Research found that high levels of debt can have a severe impact on a nation's economy -- and thus, its ability to pay.

'Above 90%,' they reckon, 'median growth rates fall by 1%, and average growth falls considerably more.' So all the budget's grandiose projections, including economic growth of over 3% a year, are doubtful at best.

We are not only stealing money from the pockets of our children and grandchildren. We are impoverishing them as well.

This chart, created by Veronique de Rugy (via InstaPundit), shows how rapidly we are mortgaging our children's future. The key point here is that this chart ends just as the Democrats' spending and debt explosion is beginning. The sharp upward trend will accelerate dramatically under Obama's budget. Click to enlarge:foreigndebt031310.jpg

Is it going too far to say that the Democrats are selling our children into servitude in order to finance a government that is wallowing in luxury we cannot afford? That sounds extreme, doesn't it? But for how many years do you think your own children will have to labor to pay off the debt that the Democrats are inflicting on them?

I don't think Barack Obama will get a second term, but at the pace the Democrats are going, four years may do more damage than our country can recover from. Incompetence, for better or worse, is not a ground for impeachment. So it is urgently necessary that the Democrats lose control over the House, and if at all possible the Senate, in November.

Senator Scott Brown Delivers Devastating GOP Weekly Address

· View Comments

Senator Scott Brown Delivers Devastating GOP Weekly Address: "

Last month, I defended Scott Brown on his vote for cloture on the ridiculous jobs bill. While I obviously thought that it was a mistake, I wasn’t ready to break out the pitchforks. Scott Brown is a Massachusetts Republican and, at the time, I said “still better partially Red, than Ted.” I said that I’d maintain faith in him and that I’d withhold my judgment until the health care votes, to see if he kept his main campaign promise; the promise that I believe was the reason most Conservatives backed him wholeheartedly.

Today, he validated that faith. He gave the GOP weekly address and he knocked it out of the park, with a scathing and truthful indictment of Obama, the Democrats and their leadership, and the health care bill that they are, with unmitigated hubris, trying to ram down our throats against the will of the American people:

A partial transcript of his awesomely devastating remarks follows below (emphasis mine). Gateway Pundit has the full transcript and it is well worth reading.

“When the people of my state elected me in January, they sent more than a senator to Washington – they sent a message. Across party lines, the voters told politicians in Washington to get its priorities right.

“And from my travels and conversation with people throughout this country, they told me that they want their President and Congress to focus on creating jobs and reviving America’s economy. Instead, for more than a year now, we have seen a bitter, destructive, and endless drive to completely transform America’s health care system….

Nearly one in ten Americans are still out of work. And still, the President and Congress are focused on ramming through their health-care bill, whatever it takes, whatever the cost.

“Maybe you remember what President Obama promised in his State of the Union address. He said he was going to finally focus on jobs and the economy for the remainder of this year. I applauded him for that. Well, here it is, it’s almost spring. And what is he out there talking about again? That same 2,700-page, multi-trillion dollar health care legislation.

“So, an entire year has gone to waste. Millions of Americans have lost their jobs, and many more jobs are in danger. Even now, the President still hasn’t gotten the message.”

Somehow, the greater the public opposition to the health care bill, the more determined they seem to force it on us anyway. Their attitude shows Washington at its very worst – the presumption that they know best, and they’re going to get their way whether the American people like it or not…..

Speaker Pelosi and others are handing down their marching orders, telling them to vote for this bill no matter what. Rarely have elected leaders been so intent on defying the public will. For many members of Congress, the time for choosing is near – do what the party leadership demands, or do what the people have asked you to do. If my colleagues don’t mind some advice from a newcomer, I’d suggest going with the will of the people.

The will of the people. What a concept, huh? I suppose that for people to whom the Constitution is just a pesky document to circumvent, the will of the people is a lost concept.

The Associated Press had a response to Senator Brown’s remarks. Ever at the ready to be water carrying sycophants for the Left, they had this to say:

New Sen. Brown bashes Obama’s `bitter’ health push

Brown himself can claim responsibility for the Democrats’ failure to pass health overhaul legislation to date. They were on the verge of doing so before Brown claimed the late Edward M. Kennedy’s Senate seat in a special election upset in January, depriving Democrats of their filibuster-proof supermajority and throwing the health care effort into limbo.

Bashes. Telling the truth is now “bashing.” The Associated Press goes on to attempt to blame Scott Brown, by saying he can “claim responsibility” for the failure to pass health care, as if that were a bad thing! Funny, I wouldn’t go with blame; I’d go with partial credit and immense gratitude. They also say that he “deprived” the Democrats.

Excellent. Because, their losses are the Country’s gain.

Barkley, one of the founding members of the Young Republicans of Wells County, serves as the chair of the Special Events Committee. His committee has planned several events including a YR kickoff cookout with the Central Committee, a pancake breakfast fundraiser and a Fort Wayne Komets game outing hosted by Indiana Senate candidate Jim Banks. Additionally, Barkley coordinated with U.S. Senate candidates Don Bates Jr., Dan Dumezich and Marlin Stutzman to host YR meet-and-greet events.
A graduate of Norwell High School, Barkley also has earned an Associate of Science degree in Construction Management from Ivy Tech Community College. He will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management and Business Administration from Huntington University in May. He is a member of the Pinnacle Honor Society, an organization that recognizes “outstanding adult students.”
He and his wife, Heather, are members of Life Church Huntington, a 5-year-old church plant from Life Church in Bluffton. The Barkleys serve on the leadership and teaching teams. They also have led and participated in mission trips to Guatemala.
At the end of the month, Barkley will launch an internet radio talk show called “Faith & Politics with Josh Barkley” on www.wellscountyvoice.com.
“The tagline for the show is ‘God. Government. Guts.’ because I believe it takes guts to discuss or be involved in faith or politics,” Barkley said. “My hope is that ‘Faith & Politics’ will show that these two areas have a relationship with each other and should not be considered taboo topics in a public setting.”
If elected chairman of the Wells County Republican Party, Barkley plans to use his skills with social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter as tools to advance the party.
“I have networked with leaders of Young Republican groups and Central Committees from across Indiana to gain knowledge about how their organizations function,” Barkley said. “I believe these groups offer fresh ideas and perspectives that will strengthen the Republican Party in Wells County.”
Barkley cited relationships with party leaders in Wells, Huntington, Allen, Whitley, Blackford, LaGrange, Miami and St. Joseph counties.
Barkley plans to network outside of the party as well.
“I hope to continue working with other groups such as the 6th District Constitutional Patriots in Bluffton,” he said. “These groups share our conservative ideals, and they bring issues to light that need to be addressed by our party.”
In addition, Barkley said he would make community service projects a part of the Central Committee’s agenda.
“I have lived in Wells County all of my life,” Barkley said. “This community is my home, and as a Christian I strongly believe in helping my neighbor. I think that as a party we have a responsibility not only to support candidates but to lend a hand to one another.”

Mr. President, I thought you said “the campaign is over”

Mr. President, I thought you said “the campaign is over”: "

During the “health care summit,” we witnessed yet another Barack Obama Hypocrisy Moment, as he chastised Senator John McCain for “campaigning” during his summit comments and accused McCain of employing “talking points”

As one who has noted Obama’s non-stop campaigning, I found this bordering on hysterically funny.  He had to have OD’d on gall that morning to make such an assertion.  This is the President who has made over four hundred speeches in his first year in office.  Back in October, Toby Harnden of the London Telegraph observed:

Beyond the grand announcements, fine speeches and his eager acceptance of the Nobel Peace Prize, Mr Obama has yet to achieve anything of substance. It is time for the campaign to end.

Indeed, it is time for the campaign to end.  But, as Harnden points out, Obama is “the campaigner-in-chief.”  It is What. He. Does.  Governing is too messy for the President.  He’d rather pass off responsibility to folks like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and let them do the heavy lifting … and then he can throw them under the bus later when they fail (God willing).

Today the Perpetual Campaign Tour, 2010 Edition continues here in St. Louis. The President and his teleprompter will speak this afternoon at St. Charles High School, in the northwest St. Louis suburb of St. Charles, and will appear this evening at a fundraiser for Claire McCaskill’s 2012 campaign (which is in itself a strange thing…what about Robin Carnahan in 2010?  But, I digress).  The audience, of course, will be hand-picked, by invitation only.  Expect to see legions of adoring followers in attendance.

The tour began Monday, in Philadelphia, where he gave (yet another) campaign speech:

In a high-octane appearance that harked back to his “yes we can” campaign days, Mr. Obama jettisoned the professorial demeanor that has cloaked many of his public pronouncements on the issue, instead making an emotional pitch for public support as he tries to push the legislation through a final series of votes in Congress in the next several weeks

On Wednesday, Mr. Obama is to travel to St. Louis for another campaign-style rally for health care, White House officials said.

So, back to campaign mode he goes, and we must endure a day’s worth of media blather where we will hear the same Obama talking points repeated time after time after time.  But, the worst part?  St. Charles High is my alma mater.

Obama’s sticking with the plan here - he believes if he just gives one more speech, we’ll all see the light and buy what he’s selling.  Mary Steyn describes it this way:

According to Barack Obama, the problem is he overestimated you dumb rubes’ ability to appreciate what he’s been doing for you. “That I do think is a mistake of mine,” the president told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos. “I think the assumption was if I just focus on policy, if I just focus on this provision or that law or if we’re making a good rational decision here, then people will get it.”

But you schlubs aren’t that smart. You didn’t get it. And Barack Obama is determined to see that you do. So the president has decided that he needs to start “speaking directly to the American people.”

The problem is, Mr. President: we do “get it”.  And we don’t want it.  You really should save your perpetual campaign rhetoric for 2012.  You’re gonna need every ounce of it, because at the rate you’re going, in 2012 you won’t be able to get elected to the PTA.

And stay away from my high school from here on out, please.

Marlin Stutzman Takes the Lead Among the Grassroots

Marlin Stutzman Takes the Lead Among the Grassroots: "

Dan Coats has a pretty website up now in Indiana. One thing you won’t there are the results of a devastating straw poll among tea party activists in Indiana.

Marlin Stutzman dominated the poll with Coats finishing dead last.

Now, I don’t put too much stock in straw polls, but they certainly are good at showing energy and trends. Compare it to the CPAC poll that had Ron Paul in first with Mitt Romney behind him. We know the energy is with Paul and Romney, being up there with him, sure looks like a contender.

Coats was at the very bottom. The energy is with Stutzman and Coats doesn’t even seem like a contender. Former Congressman Hostetler even beat Coats.

Also on Dan Coats’ website is a nice little press release with some platitudes by a few politicians in Indiana. Compare that to Stutzman who just picked up the endorsements of over 20 members of the Indiana State Legislature.

Marlin Stutzman also cleaned up at the most recent debate.

Stutzman said he has worked in the state Senate to reduce the deficit without raising taxes. “Folks, I oppose deficit spending in this country. It’s time we stop that problem in Washington before all else,” Stutzman said.

“It’s time to cut our federal government back to the size of the original piece of parchment that it was written on,” Stutzman said.

Amen. Folks we need to get Marlin Stutzman elected.

Your Tax Dollars At Work, U.S. Census Edition: "

So I meander out to my mailbox this afternoon, and what should I discover but a letter from the U.S. Census.  Hmm, feels mighty thin, I say to myself.  So I open up the envelope and out drops this letter:

The Census has sent me a letter telling me that they’re going to send me a letter.  Brilliant!

I’m having a difficult time deciding if this letter is:

  1. Supposed to be helpful or informative in some way.

  2. A joke.

  3. Some sort of Obama stimulus plan for the postal workers

  4. My imagination.

I’m betting on option 3.

I think the gubmint probably figures that us rubes out here in the hinterlands will just say to ourselves “hey, it’s just funny money - the U.S. Census is a gubmint entity, and the USPS is kinda sorta part of the gubmint, too, so it probably didn’t cost them anything”  Well, except for the time that the mail dudette had to spend sticking all those envelopes in mail boxes and the gas it took to run the mail truck, the trees they had to kill for all of those letters and envelopes, etc.

I suppose the environmental aspects of this never occurred to anyone.  A letter, telling me I’m going to get a letter.  I hope the enviro-wackos are having fun with this.

I think I’ll send them a letter telling them I got their letter about their letter.

Just Doesn’t Get Much Clearer Than This….

"It would reduce the whole instrument to a single phrase, that of instituting a Congress with power to do whatever would be for the good of the United States; and as they would be the sole judges of the good or evil, it would be also a power to do whatever evil they please. Certainly no such universal power was meant to be given them. It [the Constitution] was intended to lace them up straightly within the enumerated powers and those without which, as means, these powers could not be carried into effect."

TEA PARTIES: HI-JACKED BY POLITICAL HACKS?

Wednesday, March 3, 2010 · View Comments

By Marilyn M. Barnewall
March 1, 2010
NewsWithViews.com

Both the Republican and Democrat Parties are trying to hi-jack the Tea Party movement. And, unfortunately, some people who sponsored the initial Tea Parties don’t have necessary arrows in their organizational planning quivers to move their pro-Constitution groups forward.

One basic Law of Nature is that nothing stands still. Everything moves. It either goes forward or it goes backward. One key to success, of course, is being able to tell the difference between “backward” and “forward.”

Some Constitutionalist (Tea Party) group leaders either don’t understand the Laws of Nature or lack organizational planning skills. Patriots they may be, but if they do not move forward to some specifically defined objective, they will fade into nothingness.

Elected officials – not all, but many – are part of the problem. Only legislative results provide a reliable guideline – and results aren’t good in most communities. So why do Tea Party coordinators invite political hacks to speak to audiences disgusted with elected officials? Why are politicians, part of the problem, given Tea Party spotlights?

It’s not all the fault of Tea Party coordinators, either. Group members are responsible for privately and politely telling organizers what they want and need.

In the beginning, professional politicians laughed when people began to gather at “Tea Party” rallies and meetings. Then New Jersey and Virginia election results shook them. Their laughter became muted. Then Massachusetts happened – and they stopped laughing altogether and both political parties began plotting how to take the movement over. In some cases, they are succeeding and Tea Party leaders and members are remiss for letting them get away with it.

We need to answer the question: “What can we do to make government stop its headlong rush to socialism? How can we force government to stop ruling and begin governing?” Those are questions Tea Party managers need to answer for members when planning future functions. People attend because they want answers. They need to know what to do and how to do it.

For those who initially sponsored local Tea Party events but don’t have required organizational planning skills to move forward, get help. Use wisely your once-in-a-lifetime chance to save your nation! Take it seriously!

Start by admitting short-comings (if you have them) and find some organizational and planning help. Call Tea Party heads in Nevada who successfully took over that state’s Republican Party. They did as I suggested in an earlier article. They got organized at numerous local levels and coordinated their groups into a statewide effort. You can find them on your Internet search engine. Just input the words Nevada Tea Party. One Google search I conducted brought 315,000 hits to my screen.

There are so many issues! What criteria can be used to identify the critical versus the important? Everything seems critical. Common Sense provides the best way to calculate how volunteer efforts can be best used. People are willing to work provided a plan has been created that tells them where they are going – but a destination is seldom reached without a map. Planning is hugely important. What are your objectives?

First – and most important – do what Nevada did. Take your state’s Republican Party back. To do that, start at the local level… from the smallest towns and cities and counties to the biggest. Make sure Tea Party attendees know when the state caucuses, Republican and Democrat, are scheduled. Get a non-Party expert to train on how to become county delegates. The Parties are part of the problem, not the solution. For too long, people have relied on the state’s Republican and Democrat Parties to select candidates. The answer to the question “How did we get into this mess?” is that state political parties gave us candidates who support the party line, not the people.

You will never change things at the national level if you do not first change them locally.

Second, organize. Get petitions signed that put important issues on your state ballot for the 2010 election. It is the only way to put control back into the people’s hands… and some states are doing away with the petition/ballot process, so act now!

Issue Number One: State sovereignty. If you have not read the series of twelve articles Timothy N. Baldwin, JD., titled: A Concurring Opinion for Secession, make it your first stop.

Nothing would give Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid nightmares faster than election results announcing a majority of citizens in numerous states voted for state sovereignty. If your state legislature has already passed sovereignty laws, you’re lucky. The rest of us are waiting.

Make a copy of Baldwin’s articles and take them with you to your next Tea Party meeting. Share them with others. Help your Tea Party. Help them by demanding something useful! Let them know what you want when you spend time at meetings to discuss the future of your country. Stand up and speak out. Pretend your name is Paul Revere. If you’re shy, get over it. You country needs you to get over it!

Another issue Constitutionalists can get on state ballots via petition is the right of states to coin their own currency.

Though it does not deal with states’ rights to coin currency, Representative Ron Paul introduced The Free Competition in Currency Act of 2009 in the House of Representatives last December. It repeals the federal law establishing U.S. coins, currency and reserve notes as legal tender for all debts, public charges, taxes and dues. If the legal tender law is repealed, control over the money supply by the Federal Reserve System is on its way to becoming history.

Representative Paul’s Competition in Currency Act is getting no traction in Congress.

Everyone talks about what a great guy Ron Paul is – and he is!So why aren’t Constitutionalists helping him? If numerous states pass legislation demanding the right to create their own currency and escape the criminal acts of the Federal Reserve System, Ron Paul’s legislation will suddenly become popular. Why? Because his alternative is less drastic than states demanding the right to create currency.

All it takes is enough signatures on a petition to get it on the ballot.

Finally, Constitutionalists need to put pressure on their state governments to create State Banks. When I was a bank consultant, I wrote numerous articles for The American Banker and Bank Marketing Magazine opposing interstate banking. The primary point is: When the McFadden Act of 1927 prevented interstate banking and when states deposited their tax revenues in local banks, the money stayed in the state. Once all 50 state legislatures approved interstate banking, the “too big to jail” banks moved into the local scene. The Riegel-Neal Interstate Banking and Branching Efficiency Act of 1994 repealed this provision of McFadden but it keeps state law in control of intrastate branching, or branching for state and national banks located within each state's borders.

State Banks keep tax deposits in a local bank, not in multi-national banks that often send deposits to corporate headquarters locales. Local deposits stimulate local economies. A State Bank can make loans to local businesses, bypassing national monetary policies harmful to independent businesses. If local industry is driven by agriculture, State Banks can render assistance to farmers even when the FDIC prohibits farm loans. State Banks have their own deposit insurance system so they won’t be closed by FDIC auditors – because FDIC auditors don’t audit State Banks.

In North Dakota’s State Bank, the Governor acts as Chairman and works with a seven-member Advisory Board appointed by him or her. The North Dakota economy is strong and stable.

The idea of state banks is becoming a major issue for 2010 political candidates in Florida, Illinois, Oregon, Massachusetts, Idaho and California. An Oregon candidate for Governor, Bill Bradbury, suggests “It is time to declare economic sovereignty from the multinational banks that in large part are responsible for much of our current economic crisis. We can achieve these two goals by creating our own bank.”

Mr. Bradbury is correct. It is far easier to get rid of a Governor who perpetrates fraud on the people than it is to get rid of the Federal Reserve or FDIC.

My personal favorite state ballot issue is simple. “The State of Colorado is an independent, sovereign state that adheres to the Rule of Law as defined by the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of Colorado. The citizens of Colorado will, therefore, obey laws that constitutionally flow from the United States House of Representatives and the Senate, but reserve the right to reject unconstitutional laws imposed on them by Executive Order of the President of the United States of America.”

There are numerous issues that are important. Abortion, an illegal presidency, smaller government, lower taxes, the rush to socialism complete with government-run health care, and on and on. What people don’t seem to realize is that if we lose our nation, we’ll have nothing to say about how those issues get resolved.

After reading the above, I hope it’s clear that my definition of “critical” issues involves America’s system of monetary policies that control commercial and investment banks. Bank loan policies involving independent businesses, controlling the value of our currency, and the need to push away from the federal bureaucracy and become strong, independent states is where we must plant our flag for freedom

We must maintain the sovereignty of our states or we will lose the sovereignty of our nation. If that happens, other less critical issues – important though they may be – will not be left to the people to decide.

Big Brother will do it for us – is already trying to do it for us. It’s time to get serious, folks.

The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary

common sense and good judgment to an electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.” ** -- Author Unknown*

Fake Tea Partier Also a Phony Soldier: "

Dale Robertson, the racist nut who many in the media have paraded as emblematic of Tea Party attendees, claims to be a "leader" of the movement. In fact, he is a loner who has been rebuffed by every Tea Party group with which he has associated.

Of course that did not dissuade the liberal media from unquestionably presenting him as the "leader" he dubiously claimed to be. The Washington Post and liberal blog Talking Points Memo both portrayed him as such, despite the fact that numerous Tea Party groups have publicly denounced him (none, as far as I can tell, have backed him).

It turns out his "leadership" is not the only thing Robertson embellished. In a brief bio on his website, he lies about his military career. According to the website,

Dale served his nation first as a U.S. Marine. After completing his duties with the Corps, he reenlisted into the U.S. Navy and became a U.S. Naval Officer. During his distinguished time of service, Dale’s Battle Group was first to the scene on 9/11 as well as first to launch an offensive in Afghanistan. He was stationed on the USS Sacramento which was the life blood of the Battle Group. He faithfully served our nation with Honor and Integrity, retiring after 22 years.

But a Freedom of Information Act request by blogger Jonn Lilyea at This Ain't Hell reveals that Robertson was discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves after serving less than a year. That is quite an embellishment from the record he claims on his website. Robertson's statement is, in fact, riddled with falsehoods.

Jim Hoft asks, "what are the odds that the state-run media ignores this, too?" Yes, it was a rhetorical question.

TPM, WaPo, and others in the liberal media will no doubt ignore Robertson until he pops up again with another derogatory sign, or runs in front of television cameras shouting racial slurs. That, after all, has been the extent of Tea Party coverage thus far--we've been given no reason to believe that facts will change a thing.
