Letter to the Editor
My blood pressure increased significantly when I read my own letter to the editor in the Tuesday, August 25th edition of the Journal Gazette. It wasn’t because of any rush of egoism in seeing my name in the newspaper. I was angry. Five crucial ideas had been carefully excised in several places of the concise 358 word text.
The fact that our group, “Patriots of the Constitution”, has come together from diverse backgrounds and many political parties, was omitted. The part that cast a negative light on Senators Lugar and Bayh, was scrubbed. Calling attention to the heartbreaking abandonment of the constitutional principles of Free Market Capitalism, Limited Government, Freedom and Responsibility, was mysteriously gone. The plea to speak out against the trillions in spending that we don’t have, in order to prevent “fiscal child abuse” of our grandchildren, was censored. The notion that when the Constitution is ignored, it produces “career politicians” who are “tone deaf” to their constituency, couldn’t be found.
Why were these ideas removed? Was it to save a few column inches in a newspaper that is skinnier now than it has ever been? I don’t think so. I believe that the editing was done simply to lessen the impact and influence on those who would read it. No one is forced to eat, nor even like the sandwich that I may make, but please have the journalistic integrity to not take off the bacon, cheese, lettuce, pickles and onions before you offer it to the public. Oh, and please make sure that you include our web address, www.6thdistrictconstitutionalpatriots.org.
Thank You,
